Removal



1. Remove the fuel tank filler cap to relieve pressure in the tank.

2. Remove the air filter (see section 8).

3. Disconnect the cable from the throttle lever (see section 16).

4. If the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, disconnect the throttle release cable (if equipped) from the throttle lever (see Chapter 7B).

5. Clearly label all vacuum hoses and fittings, then disconnect the hoses.

6. Disconnect the fuel supply line from the carburetor.

7. Clearly label all wires and terminals, then disconnect the electrical connectors.

8. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the carburetor from the intake manifold. Remove the carburetor gasket. Plug the intake manifold opening with a rag.

Installation



9. Use a scraper to remove all traces of old gasket and sealant from the intake manifold (and carburetor if reinstalled), then remove the rag from the intake manifold opening. Clean the mating surfaces with acetone or solvent.

10. Install a new gasket on the intake manifold.

11. Install the carburetor on the gasket and tighten the fasteners.

12. To avoid warping or damaging the carburetor, tighten fasteners in a diagonal pattern 1/4 turn at a time.

13. The rest of the installation is carried out in reverse order.

14. Check and, if necessary, adjust the idle speed (see Chapter 1).

15. If the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, adjust the throttle release cable as described in Chapter 7B.

16. Start the engine and check for leaks.
