Examination

1. Carefully clean the cylinder head surface from any remaining sealant and check for distortion of its surface adjacent to the cylinder block. To do this, apply a steel ruler to the head and insert feeler gauges of different thicknesses between the head and the ruler. If it is possible to insert a feeler gauge thicker than 0.20 mm on a 2.5 L engine, the head should either be milled or replaced.

2. You can get advice on this matter at the service station.

Assembly and installation

Assembly on both types of engines is carried out in the same way.

1. The cylinder head gasket has no markings and must be applied with the side shown in the figure facing up.

2. Lubricate the threads of the cylinder head bolts with engine oil and insert the bolts into the holes. Tighten the bolts in sequence in several passes to a tightening torque of 50 N·m. Then tighten the bolts in the same sequence to a tightening torque of 105–115 N·m.

3. The values given apply to a cold engine. When the engine is warm, the tightening torque of the bolts is 115–125 Nm.
