Examination
1. Thoroughly clean the surface of the cylinder head from seal residues and check the distortion of its surface adjacent to the cylinder block. To do this, apply a steel ruler to the head and insert probes of various thicknesses between the head and the ruler. If a feeler gauge more than 0.20 mm thick can be inserted on a 2.5 liter engine, the head must either be milled or replaced.
2. Consultation on this matter can be obtained at the service station.
Assembly and installation
Assembly on both types of engines is the same.
1. The cylinder head gasket is unmarked and must be applied with the side shown in the illustration facing up.
2. Lubricate the threads of the cylinder head bolts with engine oil and insert the bolts into the holes. Tighten the bolts in sequence over several passes to a tightening torque of 50 Nm. Then tighten the bolts in the same sequence until the tightening torque is 105–115 Nm.
3. The specified values refer to a cold engine. On a hot engine, the bolt torque is 115–125 Nm.
