Installing a front disc brake (Mitsubishi Pajero 4)

Note: When installing, tighten the bolts to the torques specified in the picture.


1. Install the brake disc (4).

2. To measure the rotating resistance force after installing the brake pads, first measure the rotating resistance of the wheel hub bearing with the brake pads removed.

1) Remove the wheel drive shaft.

2) Install the special tool onto the front wheel hub assembly as shown in the figure and tighten it to the specified torque.

Tightening torque: 196 - 255 Nm

3) Use a spring dynamometer to measure the rotating resistance of the wheel bearing with the brake pads removed (in the direction of forward movement).

3. After installing the caliper on the steering knuckle, install the pad guides and pads on the caliper bracket.



Caution: Do not allow the brake disc or friction surfaces of the pads to become contaminated with oil, grease or other foreign material.


4. Clean the piston and insert it into the cylinder using a special tool.

5. Be careful not to jam the piston boot when lowering the caliper assembly, and tighten the guide pin to the specified torque.

Tightening torque: 74 Nm

6. Start the engine and then press the brake pedal 2-3 times.

7. Stop the engine.

8. Rotate the brake disc forward 10 times.



9. Use a spring dynamometer to measure the rotating resistance force after installing the brake pads (in the direction of forward movement).

10. Calculate the increase in the resistance force to rotation (the difference between the values measured in point 8 and point 1).

Nominal value:
  • Short wheelbase: 55N or less.
  • Long wheelbase: 86N or less.

11. If the increase in the resistance force to rotation exceeds the nominal value, disassemble the piston and clean it. Check it for corrosion or wear on the piston seal, and check the smooth movement of the upper and lower guide pins.

12. Install the gasket (2).

13. Connect the brake hose connection (1).

14. Fill with brake fluid.

15. Bleed the hydraulic brake system.
