Safety requirements and general rules for working with batteries
Do not smoke near the battery and keep it away from naked flames, as this may ignite an explosive (explosive) gas (electrolyte vapor), generated by the battery.
Battery electrolyte is extremely harmful and poisonous. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, clothing and painted vehicle surfaces. Spilled electrolyte must be washed off immediately with plenty of water. If electrolyte gets into your eyes or on your skin, seek medical attention immediately.
Do not disconnect the wires from the battery when the ignition key is in the «ON» («ON»). In this case, the electrical equipment of the car may fail.
Keep battery terminals clean. After connecting the wires to the battery terminals, apply special protective grease to the terminals. Use warm water to clean the terminals.
If the vehicle is not going to be used for a long time, remove the battery and store it in a place where the electrolyte will not freeze. The battery must always be stored in a fully charged state.
Checking the electrolyte level in the battery
1. The electrolyte level must be between the marks «MAX» And «MIN», applied on the outside of the battery case. Add only distilled water as needed.
2. The battery is divided inside into several compartments. Unscrew the plug of each compartment and add water to the mark «MAX». The electrolyte level must not exceed the mark «MAX», as the electrolyte may leak out while driving and cause damage. Check the electrolyte level depending on the operating conditions of the vehicle, but at least once every four weeks.
3. In batteries with a built-in indicator of the state of charge, the state of the battery is determined by the color of the indicator. The green indicator light indicates that the battery is fully charged. The black color of the indicator indicates the need to charge the battery. The blue color of the indicator indicates a low level of electrolyte in the battery.
4. If the battery is not in use (vehicle is not in use), it degrades over time. Check the charge of the battery every four weeks and, if necessary, charge it with a weak current.
Disconnecting and connecting wires to the battery
1. Stop the engine to disconnect the wires from the battery. After that, first disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal, and then from the positive. When connecting the battery, first connect the wire to the positive terminal and then to the negative.
