Checking the hydraulic power steering fluid pressure sensor (Mitsubishi Space Star)

1. Disconnect the pressure hose from the power steering pump. Connect a special measuring tool between the disconnected pressure hose and the pump as shown in Figure 16.10.

2. Bleed the hydraulic power steering drive, then start the engine and turn the steering wheel several times so that the fluid temperature rises to 50-60°C.

3. Start the engine and let it idle.

4. Disconnect the connector from the pressure sensor and connect an ohmmeter to the connector.

5. By smoothly closing the pressure gauge shut-off valve and increasing the working pressure, check the value of the sensor response pressure.

Nominal pressure: 1.8-2.4 MPa

6. Smoothly open the shut-off valve and reduce the working pressure, then check the lower threshold of the sensor response pressure.

Nominal pressure: 1.0 - 2.4 MPa

7. Remove the special tools and connect the discharge hose to the pump, tightening the hose union nut to the specified torque.

Tightening torque: 17 Nm

8. Bleed the air from the power steering hydraulic drive.
