Checking the starter traction relay (Mitsubishi Colt 5)

1. Disconnect the excitation coil contacts from terminal M of the traction relay.

2. Connect the battery between terminal S and the vehicle body (Figure 7.17).

3. Manually push the drive gear out to the thrust ring.

4. If the gear stays in place, everything is OK. If it does not stop, the holding winding circuit is broken. Replace the traction relay.
