Note: Auto parts stores usually have both new and remanufactured cylinder heads for most engine types. Since special tools are required for disassembly and inspection, and parts are not always readily available, it may be more practical and economical to replace the head rather than disassemble, inspect, and remanufacture the old one.
1. Disassembling the cylinder head involves removing the intake and exhaust valves and related components. Remove the valve rocker arms and rocker shafts if they are still in place. Label the parts or set them aside so that they can be installed in their original positions during reassembly.
2. Before removing the valves, prepare and mark a place for storing them together with their corresponding components so that they can be installed in their original place during assembly.
3. Compress the first valve springs with a special tool and remove the crackers. Carefully loosen the tool and remove the retainer, spring and spring seat (if used).
4. Remove the valve from the head, then remove the valve stem seal from the guide. If the valve is stuck in the guide (does not come out), push it back into the cylinder head and file down the area around the groove for the seals with a fine file or whetstone.

5. Repeat the procedure for the remaining valves. Remember that the parts of different valves must be stored separately in order to install them in their original place.
6. If present, remove the injector valve.
9.6. Unscrew the injector valves using a special tool Mitsubishi MMD998310 or a deep socket head
Caution: When using the injector valve wrench, make sure that the wrench is not tilted relative to the center of the valve. If the wrench is tilted, the valve stem will be bent by the force from the valve spring retainer, causing the valve to malfunction or the wrench to be damaged.
7. When disassembling the injector valve, compress the spring with a special Mitsubishi tool (MD998309), remove the valve spring retainer lock, remove the retainer and spring.
9.7. The injector valve spring must be compressed with a special tool NtMD998309
Caution: Do not mix up the parts of the injector valve after disassembling to avoid gas leakage or failure.
8. Remove the valve stem seals using pliers.
9. Once the valves and associated timing components have been removed and laid out in the order specified, the cylinder head should be completely cleaned and inspected. If you are doing a complete engine overhaul, complete the engine disassembly procedure before cleaning and inspecting the cylinder head.
