Installing crankshaft seals (Mitsubishi Pajero 4)

Model with 6V31 engine



1. Install the front crankshaft oil seal (3).

1) Apply a small amount of engine oil to the lip of the oil seal.

2) Install the oil seal into the front housing using the special tool MD998382.



2. Install the cotter pin (2).

3. Install the crankshaft sprocket (1).

1) Clean the crankshaft and crankshaft sprocket, and install the crankshaft sprocket on the crankshaft.

Installing the rear crankshaft oil seal



Note: When installing, tighten the bolts to the torques shown in the figure.


1. Install the rear crankshaft oil seal (4).

1) Install a new crankshaft oil seal using special tools MB992075 and MB992183.



2. Install the flywheel (3).



3. Install the adapter plate (2).

4. Tighten the flywheel bolts (1).

1). Fix the flywheel using special tool MD998781.

2) Tighten the flywheel bolts to the recommended tightening torque.

Tightening torque: 74±1 Nm.

Model with 6G7 engine



Note: When installing, tighten all bolts to the torques shown in the figure.


1. Lubricate the entire working edge of the seal with a small amount of engine oil.

2. Install the seal by pressing it in so that its end surface is located at the level of the chamfer of the seal housing, as shown in the figure.



3. Install the adapter plate (10).

4. Before installation, clean the threaded portion of the mounting bolts and the threaded holes in the crankshaft, flywheel or torque converter drive plate from oil, sealant and other contaminants.

5. Lubricate the mating surfaces of the crankshaft flange or the heads of the bolts securing the torque converter drive plate with oil.

6. Lubricate the threaded holes in the crankshaft with oil.

7. Apply sealant to the threads of the holes for the mounting bolts.

8. Using the special tool, the same as for removal, secure the flywheel or torque converter drive plate and tighten the mounting bolts.



9. Install the drive disk (9).

10. Install the adapter plate (8).

11. Install the crankshaft bushing.

12. Install the gearbox assembly.

13. Lubricate the entire working edge of the front oil seal with a small amount of engine oil.

14. Install the seal by lightly tapping the mandrel so that it is flush with the seal body.



15. Install the key (5).

16. Install the timing belt washer (4).

17. Install the flange (3).

18. Install the crankshaft sprocket (2).

19. Install the crankshaft position sensor (1).

20. Install the timing belt.

Model with 4M4 engine



Note: The operations for installing the crankshaft seals on a vehicle with a 4M4 engine are similar to the operations for installing the crankshaft seals on a vehicle with a 6G7 engine.
