Intake manifold — removal and installation (Mitsubishi Colt 2)

1. Release the pressure in the fuel system and disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.

Removal



Carburetor type engines



3. Remove the air filter.



10.4a Mark the disconnected hoses and wires




10.4b Disconnect the control solenoid valve plug (1.5 l)




10.4v Disconnect the exhaust system control valves from the brackets (1.5 l)




4. Mark (10.4a, 10.4b) and disconnect all hoses, wires, brackets, and exhaust system channels from the carburetor and intake manifold.

5. Disconnect the fuel hoses from the carburetor and cover the holes with caps to prevent leakage.

6. Disconnect the throttle cable from the carburetor.

7. Disconnect the cable that connects the carburetor to the gearbox and the ride control system cable (if the vehicle is equipped with one).

8. Unscrew the intake manifold and remove it from the engine.

Injection type engines



9. Disconnect the air intake hose.

10. Tag and disconnect all hoses, wires, brackets, and exhaust ports from the fuel injection system and intake manifold.

11. Remove the distributor and accelerator cables.



10.12 Unscrew the bolts (indicated by arrows) securing the fuel line


12. Unscrew the bolts that secure the fuel line to the intake manifold (10.12) and remove the line.



10.13 Unscrew the bolts (indicated by arrows) that secure the high-pressure chamber to the manifold




13. On SOHC engines, remove the bolts that secure the boost chamber to the intake manifold (10.13). Remove the chamber.

14. Raise the vehicle and secure it on stands installed under the axles.



10.15 Remove the bolts (indicated by arrows) securing the intake manifold bracket


15. Remove the bolts securing the lower manifold bracket to the engine (10.15).



10.16a Remove the bolts (indicated by arrows) securing the intake manifold to the cylinder head




10.16b Try not to damage the mating surfaces




16. Unscrew the intake manifold and remove it from the engine (10.16a, 10.16b).

Installation





10.17 Carefully clean off any remaining old gasket from the mating surface of the intake manifold

17. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head (10.17).

18. Install the manifold using a new gasket. Tighten the nuts to the specified torque.

19. Install the remaining parts.

20. Fill with coolant, start the engine and check for leaks.
