Attention! Before starting work, be sure to let the engine cool down completely.
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. On 16-valve Galant SOHC and DOHC engines, remove the air conditioning fan.
2. Set the handbrake and block the rear wheels. Raise the car and secure it on stands installed under the axles.
11.3 Unscrew the nuts (indicated by the arrow)
3. Remove the nuts that secure the exhaust system to the rear of the exhaust manifold (11.3).
4. In carburetor type engines, remove the air filter.
5. Disconnect the oxygen sensor wire.
11.6 Unscrew the nuts (indicated by arrows) of the air supply system tube (1.5 l)
6. If the engine is equipped with a system that supplies air to the exhaust manifold, unscrew the nut of the pipe of this system (11.6) and disconnect the pipe from the exhaust manifold.

11.7 Unscrew the fireproof screen bolts (indicated by arrows) (2.0 l)
7. Unscrew the three bolts securing the fireproof partition (11.7) and remove the partition.
11.8 Remove the exhaust manifold mounting nuts (indicated by arrows) (2.0 l)
8. Unscrew the exhaust manifold mounting nuts (11.8), brackets and exhaust system parts.
9. Remove the manifold from the engine compartment.
Installation
10. Check and clean all threaded fasteners.
11. Carefully clean away any remaining old gasket from the mating surface and inspect the surface for wear and cracks.
11.12 Install the gasket (1.5 l)
12. Place a new gasket on the dowel pins (11.12), install the manifold and tighten the nuts to the required tightening torques.
13. Install the remaining parts.
14. Start the engine and check for leaks in the exhaust system.
