Attention! Before starting work, be sure to let the engine cool down completely.
Removing
1. Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal. On 16 valve Galant SOHC and DOHC engines, remove the air conditioning fan.
2. Put the car on the handbrake and block the rear wheels. Raise the car and secure it on stands installed under the axles.
11.3 Tighten the nuts (indicated by an arrow)
3. Remove the nuts that secure the exhaust system to the rear of the exhaust manifold (11.3).
4. In carburetor type engines, remove the air filter.
5. Disconnect the oxygen sensor wire.
11.6 Tighten the nuts (indicated by arrows) air supply pipes (1.5 l)
6. If the engine is equipped with an air supply system to the exhaust manifold, unscrew the tube nut of this system (11.6) and disconnect the tube from the exhaust manifold.
11.7 Unscrew the fire shield bolts (indicated by arrows) (2.0 l)
7. Unscrew the three bolts securing the fireproof wall (11.7) and remove the barrier.
11.8 Remove the exhaust manifold mounting nuts (indicated by arrows) (2.0 l)
8. Remove the exhaust manifold mounting nuts (11.8), brackets and parts of the exhaust system.
9. Get a collector from office of the engine.
Installation
10. Check and clean all threaded fasteners.
11. Carefully scrape off the old gasket from the mating surface and inspect the surface for wear and cracks.
11.12 Fit the gasket (1.5 l)
12. Install a new gasket on the dowel pins (11.12), install the manifold and tighten the nuts to the required torques.
13. Install the remaining parts.
14. Start the engine and check for leaks in the exhaust system.
