Plaque location

The plate indicating the transmission type is fixed to the engine compartment bulkhead.
Typical decoding of data from the plate

From left to right: year of manufacture, month, type, verification number and serial number.
Early production cars were equipped with the MA904A transmission from Chrysler Torqueflite. The transmission consists of a torque converter and a 3-speed gear shift system with 2 multi-plate clutches, overrunning clutches and planetary gears, combined in a single housing. The hydraulic system consists of a pump and a valve block.
The transmissions of other types are 4-speed, with a gear pump, 3 multi-plate clutches, 3 overrunning clutches, 4 multi-plate brakes and 2 planetary gears. The 4th gear ratio is 0.668:1, this gear is used as the highest when the engine speed is too high.
On KM148 and V4AW2 (3) transmissions, a transfer case with constant engagement of gear teeth is installed. The box switches to the 2WD/4WD position (the front axle is switched on or off) and to the HIGH/LOW position (turning on or off the demultiplier on 4 driving wheels).
The V4AW2 transmission plate (3), affixed to the engine compartment bulkhead, indicates the transmission type and gear ratios (last 4 numbers).
It is recommended to fill the transmission with Mopar ATF Plus Type 7176 or Dexron II fluid.
