General information
- The vehicles are equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission F4A42. Since the automatic transmission is a complex unit, its repair must be carried out at a service station using special equipment. The location of the automatic transmission controls is shown in Figure 13.1.
Fig. 13.1. Location of controls of the F4A42 automatic transmission:A—crankshaft rotation angle sensor; B - dual pressure sensor; C - ignition lock switch; D - Vehicle speed sensor, D - Transmission fluid temperature sensor, Input shaft speed sensor, Output shaft speed sensor, Automatic transmission control solenoid valve; E - control lamp of the selected range; F - brake light switch; G - Full Throttle Position Sensor; I - diagnostic connector; I - Automatic transmission control relay, electronic control unit for engine and automatic transmission; J - accelerator position sensor
- Since 2002, vehicles with 4G18 engines have been equipped with the F4A41 automatic transmission, which is similar in design to the F4A42 automatic transmission,
- On vehicles with 4G93 engines produced since 2002, the gear ratios have been changed.
- All models from 2002 onwards were not equipped with a fully open throttle switch and vehicle speed sensor.
Warnings
- Warnings regarding servicing vehicles equipped with the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
- (1) Improper maintenance or repair of the SRS system (or any SRS-related part or component) may result in injury or death to personnel (due to unintended deployment of the air bag) or to the driver and front passenger (due to inoperability of the SRS system).
- (2) Maintenance or repair of the SRS system (or any part or component related to this system) must be performed only by an authorized MITSUBISHI dealer.
Note: The SRS system includes the following components: SRS control unit, SRS malfunction indicator lamp, air bag modules, coil wire and wires that connect the system components.
Warnings
- When tightening bolts and nuts, strictly adhere to the recommended tightening torques.
- If the tightening torques are not met, parts may be damaged or weakened during vehicle operation.
