Motor oil
4.1a The oil level dipstick is located near the clamp on some models
4.1b Location of oil dipstick on Galant models
4.1c The oil level should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the dipstick - if not, add oil to raise the level to the MAX mark (approximately 1 liter of oil is required to raise the oil level from the MIIM mark to the MAX mark)
4.1g Turn the filler cap half a turn and remove it - remember to clean the area around the cap before removing it
1. The dipstick located on the side of the front part of the engine is used to check the oil level. The oil level must be checked before driving the car or 15 minutes after turning off the engine (4.1a, 4.1b, 4.1c and 4.1d).
Engine coolant
Warning! Avoid contact of antifreeze with skin or painted surfaces of the vehicle body. Wash away spilled antifreeze with plenty of water. Do not leave a new container of antifreeze open or leave antifreeze spilled - the sweet smell of antifreeze may attract children or pets. Inhalation of even a small amount of antifreeze can be fatal.
4.2 Check that the coolant level in the reservoir is between the upper and lower marks - if it is below the lower mark, add coolant to the required level.
All models use a closed-type cooling system. The white plastic coolant reservoir is located in the engine compartment and is connected by a hose to the radiator filler neck (4.2). Check the fluid level in the reservoir regularly. When the engine is cold, the fluid level should be just above the LOW mark on the reservoir. When the engine is warm, the coolant level should rise to the FULL mark. If not, add a 50% mixture of water and ethylene glycol antifreeze.
Windshield washer fluid
4.3a On some models the washer fluid reservoir is located next to the coolant reservoir - do not confuse these two reservoirs
4.3b On other models the washer fluid reservoir is located separately from the coolant reservoir - remove the cap and add washer fluid
3. The plastic reservoir for the washer fluid is located in the engine compartment. In cold weather, use antifreeze for the washer fluid (4.3a and 4.3b).
Battery electrolyte
4.4 Remove the battery section caps and check the electrolyte level - if it is low, add distilled water
4. All models described in this manual are equipped with a battery that does not require additional maintenance or addition of electrolyte (4.4).
Brake fluid and clutch release fluid
4.5a The brake fluid level should be between the MIN and MAX marks - unscrew the cap to add fluid
4.5b On some models, the fluid level should be between the MAX and A marks (and should not fall below the B mark)
5. The brake master cylinder is located on the front side of the servo booster in the engine compartment. The clutch release master cylinder is located next to the brake master cylinder. The fluid level should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the reservoir (4.5a and 4.5b).
