  • General description of the exhaust system
0
The exhaust manifold is mounted on the cylinder head. It is continued by the front exhaust pipe. Next comes a small preliminary muffler (resonator) or catalyst, and an end muffler. All elements of the exhaust system are connected with bolts. All parts are available for sale separately for repairs.

Typical elements of the exhaust system of gasoline models with a catalytic converter
1 - front pipe; 2 - rubberized support; 3 - catalyst; 4 - Pre-silencer (not on this model); 3 - final muffler.

Typical components of the exhaust system of diesel models
1 - front pipe; 2 - rubberized support; 3 - middle pipe; 4 - final muffler.

Service life of the exhaust tract

The rate of corrosion from exhaust gases decreases with decreasing exhaust gas temperature. From this point of view, short trips with stops and engine cooling are less harmful than long-term movement with a warm engine and constantly hot exhaust gases. However, during cooling, condensation forms in the mufflers, which, when mixed with combustion products, forms aggressive acids that corrode the metal of the exhaust tract from the inside.

Regardless of the driving mode, moisture from outside causes rusting; stones or bumps also shorten the service life of the exhaust tract, as well as vibration caused by defective suspension rubber or poor engine suspension.
