Warning: The electric cooling fan may turn on at any time, even if the ignition is off. When working near the fan, turn off the power to it or disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
1. All engines are equipped with a heated air intake (HAI) air cleaner, which supplies air to the carburetor from different points depending on engine temperature.
2. The check is performed visually using a mirror.
3. With the engine cold, locate the air control valve located inside the filter. The valve is located inside the long channel of the air filter housing.
30.3. Using a mirror, check the operation of the air valve.

4. A flexible air duct is connected to the channel and goes into the headlight area. Disconnect the air duct from the valve channel. After that, you can look into the channel and find the air supply control valve there.
5. Start the engine and watch the valve, which should rise and close the air filter passage. When the valve is closed, air cannot pass through the valve passage, but enters the air filter through the flexible air duct attached to the exhaust manifold and the heater passage.
6. As the engine warms up to normal operating temperature, the valve should move down, allowing air to flow through the valve passage. Depending on the ambient temperature, this may take 10-15 minutes. To speed up the check, you can connect the valve passage air line, go for a drive, and then check that the valve is fully open.
7. If the thermostatically controlled air filter is not working properly, contact Chapter 6. which provides more detailed information.
