When the engine control module (vehicles with manual transmission) or the engine and automatic transmission control module (vehicles with automatic transmission) detects a malfunction and stores a diagnostic trouble code (DTC), it also stores the current engine status.

This function is called "freeze frame" ("FREEZE FRAME"). By analyzing freeze frame data using the MUT-II, you can effectively troubleshoot the problem.

The displayed positions of the freeze frame data are shown in the table below.

List of displayed items

Note: If multiple faults are detected in multiple systems, only the fault that was detected first is remembered.

Ready to test status

The electronic engine control unit (cars with manual transmission) or the electronic engine and automatic transmission control unit (cars with automatic transmission) monitors, evaluates the condition (serviceable/faulty) and remembers the dynamics of changes in the technical condition of the main diagnostic elements listed below.

Article reprinted from the website: MitsubishiMan

The dynamics of changes in the technical condition can be read by the MUT-II device (if the electronic control unit has already saved information about the technical condition of some element before, the MUT-II displays "Complete").

Finally, if the diagnostic trouble codes are erased, or if the battery is disconnected, then the information about the technical condition of the element is also erased (the memory of the electronic control unit is reset)
  • catalytic converter: P0420
  • oxygen concentration sensor: P0130
  • oxygen concentration sensor heater: P0135, PO141.

Warnings
  • Do not attempt to change the idle speed adjustment screw position (fixed SAS) (Fig. 6.3) This screw is set at the factory with high precision and does not require adjustment.
  • If such interference occurs, the throttle valve closing position is changed, which will lead to the engine control unit remembering this incorrect throttle valve position.
