Disassembly
Removal the rack stop cover
1. The stop cover is unscrewed from the steering gear housing using a special tool MB990607 (Figure 13.5).

Removal the gear seal
2. Lightly tap the gear with a plastic hammer, then remove the oil seal (Figure 13.6).

Removal the ball bearing and seal
3. Remove the ball bearing seals from the steering gear housing together with the bushing (Figure 13.7).

Removal the retaining ring
4. Rotate the rack stop clockwise until the end of the locking ring appears in the slot in the rack housing.
By turning the stop counterclockwise, remove the retaining ring (Figure 13.8).
Caution: If the rack stop is initially rotated counterclockwise, the locking ring will remain in the housing slot, causing the rack stop to no longer rotate.

Removal the oil seal
5. The seal is slightly bent back and removed from the toothed rack bushing (Figure 13.9).
Caution! Do not damage the outer bearing surfaces of the seal.

Removal the ball bearing
6. The ball bearing is pressed out of the steering gear housing using a brass rod or a special tool MB990939 (Figure 13.10).

Assembly
7. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
