Disassembly
Removing the rack stop cover
1. The stop cover is unscrewed from the steering gear housing using a special tool MB990607 (pic. 13.5).

Removing the gear oil seal
2. Lightly tap the gear with a plastic hammer, and then remove the oil seal (pic. 13.6).

Removing the ball bearing and seal
3. Remove the ball bearing seals from the steering gear housing at the same time as the bushing (pic. 13.7).

Removing the retaining ring
4. Rotate the feed dog stop clockwise until the end of the retaining ring appears in the slot in the feed dog housing.
Turn the stop counterclockwise to remove the retaining ring (pic. 13.8).
Attention! If the feed dog stop is first rotated counterclockwise, the circlip will remain in the slot in the housing, making the stop no longer able to rotate.

Removing the gland
5. The stuffing box is slightly bent and removed from the gear rack bushing (pic. 13.9).
Attention! Be careful not to damage the outer bearing surfaces of the stuffing box.

Removing the ball bearing
6. The ball bearing is pressed out of the steering gear housing using a brass rod or a special tool MB990939 (pic. 13.10).

Assembly
7. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
