The center differential (for all-wheel drive vehicles with W5M31 manual transmission) is shown in Figure 11.50.
Figure 11.50. Center differential (for all-wheel drive vehicles with W5M31 manual transmission): 1,3- Tapered roller bearings; 2 - Bolt; 4 - Driven gear; 5, 12 - Adjusting washers; 6.11- Bevel gears of half-axles; 7 - Differential bevel gear shaft lock; 8 - Bevel pinion shaft; 9 - Washer; 10 - Satellites; 11 - Interaxle differential housing
Disassembly
1. Removal of a tapered roller bearing is shown in Figure 11.51. The bearing removed from the shaft is not reused. The inner and outer rings of the tapered roller bearing are replaced as a set.

Assembly
Adjusting washers
2. Install the adjusting washer, bevel gear of the axle shaft, satellite, washer and satellite shaft into the differential housing.
3. Press down the satellite shaft and select the adjusting washer of maximum thickness so that the satellite can rotate easily. Install the selected washer on the shaft.
4. Install the axle bevel gear, adjusting washer, pinion shaft pin and driven gear, and then tighten the bolt to the required tightening torque (Figure 11.52).

5. Select the adjusting washer of maximum thickness so that the axle bevel gear can rotate easily, and install it.
6. Check the ease of rotation of both bevel gears of the axle shafts.
Axial clearance of interaxle differential gear/half-shaft bevel gear: 0.05-0.25 mm.
