Removal, installation and disassembly
1. Before starting work, unlock the front wheel hubs.
2. Remove the front wheels, remove the front brake, set aside and secure.
3. Remove the hub blocking mechanism, get the axle shaft retaining ring.
4. Press out the tie rod pin with a puller by unpinning and unscrewing the nut.
5. First, press out the lower, then the upper ball joint with a puller, remove the hub assembly with the steering knuckle and pin.
6. Carefully remove the left axle shaft.
7. Designate position of the right external semiaxis and remove it.
8. Remove the right inner half shaft (using pullers MB990241-01 and MB990211-01).
9. Remove the case of the right semiaxis. To do this, remove the spring ring of the inner axle shaft, unscrew the self-clamping nut of the housing bracket and remove the bracket.
10. When removing the bearing, fold back the edges of the dust cover.
11. Install the bearing retainer so that chamfer A rests against the bearing race.
12. To press out the bearing, install the axle shaft with the fixture on the bars and knock out the axle shaft with hammer blows.
13. Press the cover from the inner axle shaft, remove the stuffing box from the axle housing.
Assembly
1. Press a new oil seal into the axle housing using tool MB99095501 so that the surface of the oil seal is flush with the end face of the housing.
2. Using a 75x4 mm mandrel, press the dust cover onto the inner axle shaft and fill the cavity of the cover with grease.
3. Press the bearing onto the axle shaft using a press and tooling (MD990560 and MB998348-01).
4. Put new spring rings on the half shaft and insert into the gearbox, tapping with a rubber hammer, install the right half shaft housing.
5. Attach the right axle shaft to the inner one by tightening the nuts to a torque of 54 Nm.
6. Install shock absorber (if filmed).
7. Install the steering knuckle with hub (see fig. subsection 10.2.8).
8. Install the shims and locking ring, check the axial play, which should be 0.2–0.5 mm. If necessary, adjust the play by selecting washers.
9. Install the hub cap, tighten the bolts with a torque of 10–14 Nm.
10. Install the front brake and tighten the bolts with a torque of 80–100 Nm.
11. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle.
