2. Remove the cylinder head cover.
3. Set the piston of cylinder No. 1 to TDC of the compression stroke.
4. Check the rocker arms, indicated by white arrows in the figure, according to the procedure given below. Checking the intake rocker arms:
- 1) Check whether the rocker arm moves downwards when pressing on the part of it that touches the upper part of the hydraulic compensator.
- 2) If the rocker arm moves down easily when pressed, check the corresponding hydraulic compensator;
- 3) If, when pressing the rocker arm, you feel an exceptionally stiff resistance and the rocker arm does not move downwards, the hydraulic clearance compensator is in normal condition and you should look for another cause of the problem.
Checking the exhaust valve rocker arms:
Note: If it is not possible to press the Y-shaped rocker arm on the exhaust side, if one hydraulic lifter is faulty but the others are normal, then in these cases, perform the following procedure using a flat feeler gauge.
- 1) Check that a 0.1 - 0.2 mm thick feeler gauge can be easily inserted between the valve and the hydraulic compensator.
- 2) If the feeler gauge can be easily inserted, mark the corresponding hydraulic clearance compensator.
- 3) If the dipstick cannot be inserted easily, then the hydraulic compensator is in normal condition and another cause of the problem should be looked for.

5. Slowly turn the crankshaft 360° clockwise.
6. Check the rocker arms indicated by black arrows in the figure in the same way as explained in point 4.
