The rear wheel hub is fitted with a double-row radial thrust ball bearing, in which the inner surface of the central hole of the hub is used as the outer race, which reduces the dimensions and weight of the bearing (Fig. 14.47). This provides significant ease of maintenance, since the creation of a preliminary tension is achieved simply by tightening the hub nut to the required torque.

On vehicles with ABS, a wheel speed sensor rotor is installed on the rear hub.
