Replacing oil seals (Mitsubishi Colt 2)

1. To replace the axle shaft seal, lift the vehicle and place it on supports.

2. Remove the axle shafts.



3.3 Insert the tip of a large screwdriver (indicated by the arrow) behind the oil seal and carefully remove it


3. Using a large screwdriver, carefully remove the oil seal from the gearbox socket (3.3).



3.4 Apply a thin coat of grease to the outer edge of the new seal and carefully install it into the seat using a large socket and hammer


4. Apply a thin layer of grease to the outer edge of the new oil seal and carefully install it into the seat using a large socket and hammer (3.4).

5. Install the axle shafts. Be careful not to damage the lip of the new seal.

6. If the speedometer drive gear O-ring is leaking, disconnect the speedometer cable from the transmission.



7. Unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the speedometer drive.



3.8 Speedometer drive elements

1. Sealing ring; 2. Spring pin; 3. Gear; 4. Sealing ring; 5. Bushing


8. Knock out the spring pin and remove the gear from the sleeve (3.8).



3.9 When installing the gear into the bushing, make sure that the spring pin is installed with the cut away from the gear axis


9. Install new sealing rings on the driven gear, assemble the drive and install a new spring pin (3.9).

10. Install the drive onto the gearbox and connect the speedometer cable.
