Reducing pressure in the fuel system (Mitsubishi Space Star)

Before disconnecting the fuel lines, relieve the pressure in the fuel system, otherwise pressurized fuel will leak out of the fuel system.

1. Remove the rear seat.

2. Remove the protective cover.

3. Disconnect the connector from the fuel pump (Fig. 6.17).

4. Connect the MUT-II device to the diagnostic connector.

5. Turn off the ignition.

6. Select item #74 from the Data list menu of the MUT-II instrument.

7. Crank the engine crankshaft with the starter for 2 seconds.

8. If the engine does not start, use the MUT-II device to make sure that the fuel pressure in the system is less than 0.5 MPa. Then turn off the ignition.

9. If the engine starts, reduce the fuel pressure as follows:
  • 1) Turn off the ignition.
  • 2) Disconnect one of the ignition coil connectors.
  • 3) Turn the engine crankshaft with the starter for at least 2 seconds.
  • 4) If the engine does not start, use MUT-II to make sure that the fuel pressure in the system is less than 0.5 MPa. Then turn off the ignition.
  • 5) If the engine starts, let it run until it stops due to lack of fuel in the fuel line. Try to start the engine again. If the engine does not start, there is no fuel in the fuel line. Turn off the ignition.
  • 6) Connect the ignition coil connector. Clean the spark plug whose ignition coil was disconnected.

10. Disconnect the MUT-II device.



11. Connect the fuel pump connector.

12. Install the rear seat and protective cover.
