Adjusting elements of balancing shafts
1 - right balance shaft; 2 - gasket; oil pump; 3 - left balancer shaft; 4 - oil pump seal; 5 - front crankshaft oil seal; 6 - balancer shaft seal; 7 - front cover.
Removing
To reduce vibration, the engine is equipped with two balancer shafts, one of which is installed in the upper right side of the cylinder block, and the other in the lower left side of it. shaft drive is provided through two gears from two toothed belts - small and large.
To remove the balance shafts, it is necessary to remove the front cover of the engine, in which the oil pump and pressure reducing valve are mounted.
The direction of rotation of the right balance shaft coincides with the direction of rotation of the crankshaft, the left shaft rotates in the opposite direction. The speed of rotation of the shafts is twice the speed of rotation of the crankshaft.
The shafts rotate in bearings and in holes made in the body parts of the engine. The front of the left shaft enters the engine front cover and rotates without a bearing in the cover hole. The right balancer shaft is installed in the cylinder block and front cover and rotates in bearing bushings pressed into the cylinder block. The rear of the left balancer shaft also rotates in a sleeve pressed into the cylinder block.
Before installing the shafts on the engine, check the condition of the front cover. Check the condition of the left balance shaft bearing hole in the front cover. If the hole is worn, replace the front cover.
Replace the oil seals on the crankshaft, right balancer shaft and oil pump roller each time the engine is disassembled. The seal must also be replaced in case of damage to their working edges.
Measure the outer diameter of the bearing journals of the balancer shafts and the inner diameters of the bores of the bushings for the shafts in the cylinder block. If the clearances are not as specified, then the balancer shaft bushings should be replaced and the new bushings turned to the required size.
Installation
Install the oil pump wheels in the front cover. Align the wheels with the alignment marks.
Lubricate the oil pump gears with engine oil and insert the left balance shaft into the oil pump driven gear hole. Screw in and tighten the bolt.
After lubricating the bearing journals of the right balancer shaft with oil, insert the shaft into the cylinder block. Wrap the toe of the crankshaft with duct tape and install the front cover gasket.
Install the left 6-panner shaft into the cylinder block and at the same time put the front cover on the block. Fix the shaft by inserting a screwdriver into the side hole of the cylinder block and tighten the bolt.
Install the oil receiver tube with a new seal. Tighten the pump cover nuts to the specified torque.
Install the oil pan.
