Removal



Loosen the wheel nuts of the vehicle while it is parked on the ground.

Raise the front of the vehicle and remove the front wheel, first marking the position of the disc relative to the hub.

ATTENTION: It is not allowed to change the brake pads from the outer side to the inner side and vice versa, as well as from the right wheel to the left and vice versa. Be sure to change all the pads of one axle at once. If the pads are to be reinstalled, they must be marked.


Bend back the retaining washer on the caliper mounting bolt.

Pull the brake caliper outward with your hands, thereby depressing the piston.

Remove the lower brake caliper pin.

Pull the caliper up and hang it on the wire from the shock absorber spring.



Remove the brake pads.

Installation



CAUTION: When the pads are removed, do not press the brake pedal, otherwise the piston will come out of the housing.


Clean the guide surface and brake pad mounting areas with a soft metal brush or wipe with a cloth soaked in alcohol. Do not use solvents containing mineral oils or sharp tools.

Before installing the pads, check the brake disc for grooves. A disc with deep grooves must be replaced.





Measure the thickness of the brake disc.

Check the integrity of the dust boot and protective cuffs of the brake caliper. A damaged dust boot must be replaced, since penetrating dirt will quickly depressurize the caliper. To do this, the brake caliper must be removed and disassembled.

Press the piston with a wooden block (hammer handle), while avoiding any distortion of the piston or damage to the piston surface and dust boot.

CAUTION: When the piston is pressed, brake fluid flows from the brake cylinder into the expansion tank. Observe the brake fluid in the tank and remove some of the fluid if necessary.


To remove the fluid, you can use a rubber bulb or a plastic bottle. Do not use food containers. Never suck out the brake fluid with your mouth through the hose. After replacing the pads, the brake fluid level in the reservoir should not exceed the MAX mark, because the fluid expands when heated. Leaking fluid can destroy the paint and cause corrosion.

ATTENTION: If the brake pads are heavily worn, check the ease of movement of the piston. To do this, insert a wooden block into the caliper and have an assistant slowly press the brake pedal. The piston should easily enter and exit. Another caliper can be installed during the check. Make sure that the piston does not come out completely. If this happens, it is necessary to bleed the air from the brake system.



The following working operation is not obligatory: to avoid brake squealing, the back side of the pads can be coated with a special lubricant. In this case, the lubricant should not get on the working surfaces of the brake disc. If it does, wipe it off immediately and wash the pad with alcohol.

With the pads inserted with the outer linings on both sides, lower the brake caliper. Tighten the lower pin.

Install the wheels, observing the marks made during removal. Lower the car and cross-tighten the mounting nuts.

CAUTION: Press the brake pedal sharply several times until you feel a noticeable resistance.


Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank, if necessary, add fluid to the MAX mark.

Allow the new brake pads to break in by applying the brakes several times at speeds between 80 km/h and 40 km/h by lightly pressing the brake pedal. Allow the brakes to cool between successive brakings.

CAUTION: Do not brake abruptly unless necessary during the first 200 km.
