Having removed the flywheel from the engine, check its surface mating with the clutch disc. It should be free of scratches and bumps that can cause clutch disc wear and an uneven ride. If the surface requires grinding, it must be carried out in a specialized craftsman.
After surface treatment, the flywheel should be balanced.
The ring gear is fitted with an interference fit on the flywheel rim. If part of the teeth is missing or the condition of other teeth is bad, the crown should be replaced.
You can remove the flywheel by drilling a hole with a diameter of 6 mm to a depth of 8 mm in the crown. This hole will weaken the crown and it is enough to hit the hole hard once with a chisel to break the crown. After that, the crown can be removed from the flywheel.
A new crown must be put in the furnace (home electrical), heat up to 180-230°C and hold at this temperature for 5 minutes so that the crown is completely warmed up.
Quickly remove the crown from the oven and slide it onto the flywheel using a soft metal punch (e.g. copper) and carefully put it back in place.
The longitudinal runout of the crown should not exceed 0.508 mm.
ATTENTION: If the flywheel is severely worn or damaged, the entire flywheel must be replaced together with the crown.
