Checking the purge air control system (Mitsubishi Colt 5)

1. Disconnect the vacuum tube (with red stripes) from the throttle body and connect it to the vacuum pump (Figure 6.7a, b).

2. Close the adapter from which the vacuum hose was removed.

3. Create a vacuum with the engine cold, then with the engine warm (the engine should be idling). Check the engine operating condition and the vacuum.

Engine cold (coolant temperature 40°C or below):

• Vacuum - 53 kPa.
• Engine speed - 3000 rpm - vacuum is maintained.

Engine warm (coolant temperature 80°C or higher):

• Vacuum - 53 kPa.
• Engine speed: at idle - vacuum is maintained.

At 3000 rpm - after starting the engine, the vacuum disappears for about 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, the vacuum stabilizes for a while, and then disappears again.
